Sports Day in Topolovgrad

On March 16th, 2010 at 2 pm in the Sport Hall of Topolovgrad, Sports Day for children and students was held. It was the culmination of the civic initiative "Provide Me with Sports Opportunities" of the partner Chitalishte "St. St. Ciril and Methodius" involved in AGORA's project "Activating Communities through the Chitalishte Community Cultural Centers in Bulgaria", supported by America for Bulgaria Foundation. In the framework of the local initiative volunteers - parents, children, trainers and citizens had cleaned up the sport grounds in town. Besides, Sports Public Council was established and Program for Sport Development in the Municipality was designed. Last but not least, three sport facilities were supplied with sport equipment for practicing the new sports.

Over 500 children and students from "Dr.Petar Beron" High School and "St. St. Ciril and Methodius" Primary School in Topolovgrad took part in the Sports Day. During the Day the newly formed sport formations demonstrated their achievements in badminton, volleyball, chess, tourist orientation and tennis. The trainers had volunteered their time and skills for involvement of as many children and students in sport activities as possible.

Moreover, the children's enthusiasm had an impact on their parents and relatives who attended the celebration and they felt a spontaneous thrill to do some sports themselves. The Sports Day reminded the parents what sports they used to practice and even provoked them to master new ones. Thus, the sports thrill brought the families together, caused frequent communication and unification for common interests and topics. What if they practice sports together soon?

Further, greetings to the organizers and participants were made by Mrs. Emilia Lissichkova, Project Coordinator and Chairperson of AGORA Platform and by Mr. Trifon Lambov, Team Leader of the civic initiative "Provide Me with Sports Opportunities" and Chairman of Chitalishte "St. St. Ciril and Methodius". The performance of Chitalishte's majorette group "Siaini zvezdi" contributed to the good mood of the celebration.
